Divine Esteem was blessed to host our first “DEM Girlzz Talk!” session yesterday and it was an awesome night for sharing!
Have you made plans to change your life in some way this year?
Many of us tend to fall into the habit of making plans to suit our own needs and the needs of our families without consulting God. I personally have been guilty of this throughout the years. It wasn’t until I found myself in a state of despair that I ever considered the notion of handing my life over to God. It wasn’t until God brought me to a point where almost all of the plans that I had for my life failed that I decided to hand it all over to him. I had reached a place where clearly I did not have any of the answers that I knew I needed and enough was enough!
How do you adjust when God steps in and rearranges your plans?
Sometimes God has to break us to be heard. We often to place our relationship with him on the back burner for later. That is until we are faced with hardship or pain. It is then when we cry out for his help and immediate rescue. After we have made a mess of things on our own, we look for his guidance and correction. At least I know I did. It is when we allow social influences to develop our life’s plans and expectations that we are disappointed. We allow work, media, or our families to add unnecessary pressure to our lives by trying to live up to a standard that is not of God. During last night’s session one of our DEM sisters stated, “We subconsciously begin to compete with our peers and it affects our day-to-day lives in such a negative way. We live constantly trying to keep up with our neighbors instead of being content and living the life that God has for us. As time goes on you realize that you have been making self-serving sacrifices to live a life that at the end of the day leaves you empty inside. Outside elements can also cause you to depend on validation from other people. Once this starts you are on a never-ending emotional roller coaster living for the acceptance of others.”
For they loved human praise more than the praise of God. John 12:43 (NLT)
The world’s definition of success is not the same as God’s definition. We are unable to make the best decisions for our lives when we do not know who we really are. God is the creator of all things and he created everyone with a specific purpose inside of us. It isn’t until we embrace our creator and began to dig into the process of building a relationship with him that he reveals the divine life that we are destined to live. As we set our career, financial, and family goals for this year, it is so important to stop and reflect on what our motives are. We must ask ourselves the question, “Who am I helping by doing this and is this God’s will for me?”
13 You should know better than to say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to the city. We will do business there for a year and make a lot of money!” 14 What do you know about tomorrow? How can you be so sure about your life? It is nothing more than mist that appears for only a little while before it disappears. 15 You should say, “If the Lord lets us live, we will do these things.” 16 Yet you are stupid enough to brag, and it is wrong to be so proud. 17 If you don’t do what you know is right, you have sinned. James 4:13-17 (CEV)At what point do you hand your life over to God?
There is no time like the present to get it right! To know God is to know who you are. I am prayerful that living a fulfilled life as a woman of purpose is at the top of your priority list this year. God never disappoints us and it is with his love that we are able to do his work and reach our full potential.
